Most of the gladiators, especially Korg, don't seem that much bothered about being enslaved and forced to fight to the death for the rest of their lives.

Even the death of Coulson, a man he knew for a few days at most, seemed to have more of an impact on him.

Apparently, losing both his father and his precious hammer on the same day, plus the knowledge that his people are getting slaughtered, isn't upsetting enough to stop Thor from cracking jokes all the following days.

And furthermore, it even singlehandedly renewed interest in Thor as a character to the point that he became the very first solo superhero in the MCU to get a fourth solo feature film greenlit. It also became the 9th highest grossing film of 2017, soundly out-grossing even Justice League (which proved a high profile Box Office Bomb). In the end, however, it ended up receiving universal acclaim for its humor, characters, and tone, and is often regarded as one of the best films in the entire franchise (which is really saying a lot). And neither did the fact that the Justice League film adaptation, which was expected to be a bigger draw due to the high caliber of the source material and characters featured, was set to be released into theaters two weeks after Ragnarok's own debut at the box office.

The fact that Ragnarok was set to be released a full four years after The Dark World didn't help. And You Thought It Would Fail: While both of the previous two Thor movies were financial successes, they are also both often considered amongst the weaker entries of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (with The Dark World in particular often considered one of the franchise's worst films), so audiences were largely unsure what to think when Ragnarok was first announced.

His decision to take the Tesseract before Asgard is destroyed further muddies his motivations.

Is it a genuine Heel≯ace Turn or simply to prove Thor's earlier statement that Loki had now become predictable wrong? Was he really so set on destroying Asgard out of sheer hatred.or was he just acting his role assigned by fate? Note that he never went out his way to kill the escaping Asgardians.

Speaking of Surtur, there are hints of resignation whenever he discusses about his plan to bring about Ragnarok.

Or, given that Hela explicitly draws her strength from Asgard, to the point where it's actually a plot point, was Odin conquering other realms and making Asgard stronger for her sake, only to stop once he saw what she had become?

He did steal their resources to enrich Asgard, though, so if it was necessary he was certainly willing to profit from it. Did he really do it out of ambition as Hela claims or was it necessary to bring peace to them? Given how King Bor spent his life fighting wars only to eventually die in one and the lack of Asgardian intervention leading to war between the realms, Odin may have had to do it to secure peace.

When Hela says that she thought Asgard would be happy to see her, is she just being a Deadpan Snarker, or is she genuinely upset that her own people don't seem to recognize her? A shot from the trailer that didn't make it into the movie implies the latter as she looks like she's on the verge of angry tears when she furiously declares "Asgard is dead.".Speaking of Hela and on a smaller scale, when she sees Fenris, is her upset reaction a case of Even Evil Has Loved Ones or just the shock of seeing a useful tool ruined?.
